Tobias combines a strong background in Environmental Science and Future Planet Studies with years of experience at a leading consultancy firm. The perfect foundation to translate Blooming Buildings’ green ambitions into the business world. He currently lives on one of Amsterdam’s busiest streets, but having grown up in the forested surroundings of Amersfoort, his love for greenery comes naturally. Above that, he knows he needs nature to stay grounded. During his studies, he focused on making the global food system more sustainable. The integrated, interdisciplinary approach he developed there aligns seamlessly with our holistic view of urban nature. As a project manager, Tobias helps clarify both the ecological and economic value that greenery brings. For him, this is the method, but never the end goal. The true question remains: how can we fight climate change and shape society in a future-proof way?

Charlotte

Head design / Architect

Charlotte is both Head of Design and Architect at Blooming Buildings. Her diverse background offers a unique perspective that helps strike the perfect balance between architectural integrity and green value. Lees meer…

Living in an increasingly green neighborhood in Rotterdam, Charlotte sees every day what nature can do for the urban environment—how it fosters social cohesion and acts as a buffer against heat stress, flooding, and biodiversity loss. She sees Blooming Buildings as the ideal player to green the space between private front gardens and large public parks. Charlotte is both Head of Design and Architect at Blooming Buildings. Her broad range of studies—interior design, furniture making, spatial design, and a Master’s in Architecture from the Academy of Architecture—have equipped her with a multidisciplinary perspective. During her master’s, she became deeply engaged with the relationship between architecture, landscape design, biodiversity, and climate adaptation. Her diverse background helps us discover smarter, more cost-effective ways for nature and architecture to enhance one another. She also speaks the language of the architects we collaborate with. Instead of separating landscape and building design, she merges the two. By being involved from the early concept phase, we’re able to create truly integrated solutions for building-based greenery. That’s when Robyn realized: if we want to continue living on this beautiful planet, something needs to change. With a big heart for all things green, she now helps to increase biodiversity in the city. Modestly in her own urban garden, but also by making sure everything runs smoothly at Blooming Buildings, both in the office and across our projects — so that we can make our cities greener, more efficiently and effectively. Before this, Robyn worked at the Stedelijk Museum as a volunteer coordinator. She loves a dynamic work environment where no two days are the same. In that regard too, she’s found exactly the right place.

Improving the interaction between people and nature. In one single sentence, that’s Thaya’s answer to the question of what she wants to achieve through her work. Not only now, as an intern at Blooming Buildings, but also looking ahead to the future. The common thread running through her studies and internships has become increasingly green. As a Spatial Design student at HKU, with a minor in Urban Planning and Landscape Architecture under her belt, she has developed a broad perspective on how her designs can contribute to greener cities and landscapes. She first came into contact with Blooming Buildings through a former student and was immediately enthusiastic. As Junior Designer, Thaya helps make presentations and marketing materials clear and visually appealing. Born in Amsterdam, she now lives with her parents in a quiet part of Purmerend. Her room is filled with plants. She loves being out in nature and often goes on sketching trips with her boyfriend. One of her favorite trees? The weeping willow. Ties

Jr. project manager

Ties wants to be where real estate development and social impact come together. Lees meer…

Ties is studying Real Estate Management at the Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen. Blooming Buildings crossed his path during a guest lecture. One that, unlike most, truly stuck with him. After a brief search, he realised that Blooming Buildings was the perfect fit for his personal ambitions, where real estate development and social impact come together. After secondary school, he took a gap year to study Cambridge English. His love for greenery began at a young age in Soestdijk. With the Soesterduinen just around the corner, he was always outdoors. That connection with nature felt completely natural. Until he moved to the city and he suddenly missed it. This realisation has become an important driving force in his work and ambitions. At Blooming Buildings, he values the diversity of projects, the warmth of the team, and the opportunity to learn something new every day. When Ties arrives at work, he doesn’t think: What shall I do today? but rather: What will I learn today?

Caroline makes sure all our projects are in full bloom, 365 days a year. She manages our site teams and is herself head gardener for several projects, where she regularly takes photos (#nofilter) that you may spot on our socials. Caroline first joined Blooming Buildings as site manager of the Baxter Building, alongside her work as a coach and communications strategist. But she had already caught the “plant virus” a bit earlier: in 2018 she started volunteering at The Miracle Garden in Amsterdam’s Erasmus Park, not far from her home in Bos & Lommer. From there, she dove deeper into gardening and planting, taking courses in garden design and continuously expanding her knowledge. What excites her time and again is the power of well-chosen planting in public spaces: even people with little knowledge of greenery can fully enjoy it and often feel inspired to create something beautiful themselves. Which Caroline wholeheartedly encourages, because every square meter counts. With Blooming Buildings, she hopes to accelerate the growth of urban green spaces and inspire as many stakeholders as possible. Because good greenery—attractive for both people and wildlife—yields so much in return.

She fell for the quality of the plantscaping and gardens that Blooming Buildings delivers, and the education that is an important side job, small and large, of all of our team members.

Kune

A busy bee with a big heart for nature and people Lees meer…

Kune enjoys looking at climbing plants and observing how they find their way along a wall. It’s no surprise, then, that she feels at home with Blooming Buildings: we are also big fans of climbing plants. From the moment Kune became a Project Gardener person, she felt the responsibility to keep the plants she looks after as healthy and happy as possible. Besides her work as a Project Gardener, she is studying Social Work and volunteers at a center for people with psychosis sensitivity. There, she cooks and assists at De Bruisende Tuin (The Thriving Garden), a vegetable garden that provides various green activities. With her love for plants, she wants to contribute to a society where nature can find its way without obstacles. In that regard, there is still a long way to go. Blooming Buildings feels like a step in the right direction, where we make space for greenery and a sustainable existence.

For Robin, it feels almost meditative to clear his head and focus solely on plants. Alongside his role as a caretaker for Blooming Buildings, he is a musician. In the hectic world of entertainment, the calm that plants radiate is a welcome escape. Thanks to flexible working hours, he is able to combine his creative work with plant care. Robin came to Blooming Buildings out of his love for greenery. He has always had a deep affection for houseplants. For him, the presence of plants makes the difference between wanting to be somewhere and wanting to leave as quickly as possible. Through his work at Blooming Buildings, he has learned a great deal in a short time about different plant species, natural pest control, and developing a better understanding of plants. And just like the plants in his care, that knowledge will only keep growing.

Roza

Project Gardener

As Roza puts it: “I want more green!” Coincidentally, that’s exactly what we want at Blooming Buildings, too. Lees meer…

After completing her studies in psychology and data science, Roza is now training to become an ecological garden designer. Because, as she puts it: “I want more green!” Coincidentally, that’s exactly what we want at Blooming Buildings, too. As a nature-loving data scientist, Roza was delighted to discover that the number of bees and butterflies has increased in recent years. With countless small pockets of urban nature, this turns out to be entirely possible — even among concrete and asphalt! Her love for nature began in Spain, where she first saw that food quite literally grows in the wild. The best part of her work as a maintenance manager at Blooming Buildings? Seeing new plants grow and bloom every week — and the spontaneous, enthusiastic reactions from people passing by.

Annelotte

Project Gardener

Annelotte loves the variety and enjoys working outdoors, away from the screens that surround us all day. Lees meer…

Having graduated in anthropology, Annelotte works for an Amsterdam-based foundation that helps newcomers find their way in the Netherlands. She also works occasionally in healthcare, and manages the planting of the former Stadstimmertuin in Amsterdam on behalf of Blooming Buildings. She loves the variety and enjoys working outdoors, away from the screens that surround us all day. She also takes pleasure in getting other people to stop and look at nature. There is already so little greenery in the city, Annelotte feels. And when it is there, people rarely pay it much attention. What she finds special about Blooming Buildings is the care and attention given to the beauty of our borders, corporate gardens, and pocket parks — and people do notice, as she can tell from the many reactions she receives.

Yvette

Project Gardener

Plant whisperer with a love for the tropics. Lees meer…

Yvette felt it was a shame that her green fingers were only ever stuck to a keyboard. As a caretaker, she now tends to the office plants at Plat4Mation in Utrecht, so that employees can enjoy them to the fullest. In her daily life, she coaches entrepreneurs and their teams in making the most of their talents. And two evenings a week, she teaches tennis. She grew up in a house with a large garden, including a vegetable patch, and went to study in Wageningen because she wanted to work on agricultural projects in the tropics. The very same plants she once encountered in full size in her gardens in Indonesia, Honduras, and Pakistan, she now lovingly tends to in the office space of Plat4Mation.

Hester

Project Gardener

Naoimh

Project Gardener

Naoimh makes urban nature flourish and experiments with compostable alternatives to leather and plastic.

Elsemieke

Project Gardener

Industrial designer with a big heart for urban nature. Lees meer…

After completing her studies in Industrial Design, Elsemieke turned her focus to social and sustainable projects. In time, however, she traded her office job for work in the open air. During the summer she conducts research on bats and swallows, and she volunteers at a food forest. For Blooming Buildings, she ensures that the plants at the Groothandelsgebouw remain beautiful and healthy. Her love of greenery was instilled at home, where there were just as many plants indoors as there were in the garden outside. When she moved to Rotterdam in 2018, she discovered the importance of urban nature for the liveability of built-up environments, particularly in relation to heat stress and water management. The green spaces in the city were a true sanctuary for her. She recently became a garden owner herself — a place where she can experiment to her heart’s content with the horticultural knowledge she gains at Blooming Buildings.
